Staying in a castle may seem like something that only happens in fairy tales.
Happily, Team Big Deal look surprisingly good in fairy godmother costumes.
With a twirl of our wands we have conjured up a magic Big Deal on a getaway break at Stonefield Castle Hotel, near Tarbert in Argyll.
Set within 60 acres of woodland gardens, Stonefield Castle Hotel was built in 1837 and many of the beautiful Scottish baronial period features have been retained.
Near to the pretty fishing village of Tarbert, the castle stands high on the famous Kintyre peninsula and has spectacular views over Loch Fyne and the gardens.
Available seven days a week, this fantastic deal comes in two versions. You can choose to stay for one or two nights in a twin/double room at Stonefield Castle with a full Scottish breakfast in the morning.
Each of the 32 rooms is individually decorated and all are ensuite. The hotel offers WiFi.
As part of the offer, a bottle of wine will be waiting for you in your room when you check-in.
On the night of arrival, guests will enjoy a delicious meal in Loch Fyne, the hotel’s AA Rosette restaurant. Guests will receive an allowance of £30 per person, redeemable against dishes from the a la carte menu.
For guests staying two nights, the £30 allowance applies to the first night only.
As part of the Big Deal, guests will dine in the hotel restaurant. The restaurant has been awarded an AA rosette for the high quality of its cooking and locally sourced beef and seafood take pride of place on the menu.
Typical dishes on the regularly changing menu might be the Tarbert bouillabaisse made with baked salmon, haddock, sea bass, mussels, cockles, a langoustine bisque and aioli or the 28-day, aged, beef fillet from Mull.
The only thing that may distract you from the food is the breath-taking view over the loch.
After dinner, you can choose to relax in the traditional elegance of the wood panelled bar and perhaps enjoy a dram by the blazing log fire.
Guests have not been shy about making their views heard on TripAdvisor. This recent contribution says it all. It has been edited for length but not meaning:
‘What an amazing two nights I’ve just spent at Stonefield Castle with my boyfriend. It is set in some of the most picturesque landscapes I have ever seen. The reception staff were absolutely fantastic and could not have done more… The room (number 32) was absolutely stunning, boasting the most beautiful view of the Loch, a four poster bed, separate lounge area and huge bathroom… We ordered room service on the first night and the food was to die for… Special thanks to the mixologist in the cocktail bar for making us some beautiful drinks. We enjoyed them in our room whilst watching the sun go down. Honestly could not have asked for a more relaxing stay, the staff are a credit to this hotel – the worst part was leaving! I’ll definitely be back…’
