The Michelin-starred, Scottish chef Tom Kitchin likes the food here. He told the BBC Good Food Magazine that his ideal meal would be the fresh, Tarbert-landed langoustines served in the Royal an Lochan.
Locally sourced produce, especially seafood, forms the backbone of the menus.
The kitchen changes the menus regularly but typical dishes might be starters such as the pan-seared, local scallops served with a vanilla and parsnip purée, parsnip crisps and pickled beetroot.
Popular main courses include the roast rump of Scottish lamb served with spinach and wild mushrooms, fondant potatoes, ratatouille and jus.
We interviewed Royal An Lochan and filmed their chef cooking some of their delicious dishes on the blog.
The tranquil Argyll countryside surrounding the hotel offers some off the best scenery on the West Coast of Scotland as well as fantastic bird-watching opportunities. The hills above Tighnabruaich boast three well stocked trout lochs and, if you are feeling energetic, the nine-hole golf course nearby has possibly the best views in the world.
The less energetic may prefer to relax with a malt whisky and a book in the hotel’s atmospheric Shinty Bar.
The Royal an Lochan has built an enthusiastic fan base. Here’s what one guest had to say on TripAdvisor. We’ve edited it for length but not meaning:
‘Fantastic. Just came back after a two night stay at the Royal an Lochan and must say it was more than we expected. The hotel was lovely; rooms were beautiful with stunning views… The food and the presentation were amazing. Top marks to the chef and must say the choice of wines was great as well. The owners are very welcoming and also special mention to the manager and manageress who made our stay very enjoyable. We will definitely return. Thanks for a great stay, Ann & Jim x’
