Once upon a time, a honeymooning couple stayed in a hotel overlooking a horseshoe bay.
They loved it so much, they made a promise to one another – that they would never leave. What’s more, they also promised to take over the hotel that had made them so happy.
That place was Oban, the hotel was the Muthu Queens and the same couple still run it to this day. And now you can soak up some of the horseshoe bay’s good luck for yourself with today’s Big Deal for a one or two night stay for two.
Need we even mention that this would make a particularly nice Christmas gift?

Three course meal for two
With options two and three, you can enjoy a three course meal for two in the hotel’s Cuanra Restaurant. Offering long views over Oban Bay, traditional tartan decor and crystal chandeliers, this is fine dining with added atmosphere.
The restaurant is overseen by Head Chef Stuart Wood, a culinary artist dedicated to creating faultless cuisine that will leave diners speechless.
Menus can shift with the seasons, but sample starters include soup of the day, and Scottish smoked salmon with crisp leaf salad, lemon and buttered brown bread.
Mains may include lamb rack with fondant potatoes, seasonal veg and minted jus, and the brie, cranberry & mushroom Wellington with crisp side salad. Desserts often include a selection of Scottish cheeses, and profiteroles with chocolate sauce.
Afterwards you can relax with a drink in the elegant lounge bar, a cosy hideaway of polished wood and gleaming brass. While there, why not sample a glass of the local dram, an Oban single malt?
Whisky, walks and golf
Oban is a great base for outdoor activities, sightseeing and relaxing coastal strolls. The hotel is close to the striking Gothic Revival St. Columba’s Cathedral and a five-minute drive from the Gateway to the Islands ferry hub, should you fancy a jaunt over the water.
You could also spend a day out on a seal spotting boat cruise, sample whiskies at Oban Distillery or head to the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary. Dunollie Castle stands just on the outskirts the town and offers glorious views to the island of Kerrera. The falls of Lora are also within easy reach and are a fun day out for adrenaline junkies or budding photographers.
Glencruitten golf course is a real hidden gem just outside of Oban, in the hilly Glencruitten Estate. The 18-hole parkland course was designed by James Braid and offers a whole host of extra facilities, including a practice area with a putting green, well-equipped shop and a lovely bar and lounge.
Loch Creran is also a very peaceful spot just a half hour drive from the hotel, while Cruachan Hollow Mountain Visitor Centre on Loch Awe gives you the chance to get up close to an amazing feat of engineering.
