This is an historic region with Bruce’s castle in Tarbert, and the beautiful, well-preserved Skipness Castle a few miles to the South. There are even older relics at Kilmartin Glen, with its ancient standing stones.

Whisky aficionados will enjoy tracing the distillery trail around the islands and the Cowal Peninsula.

“The surprisingly spacious double “cabin” featured a view over the harbour and the floating room provides changing views of the harbour through your stay with local wildlife from wading birds through swans during our stay. The room also features a spacious walk in wet room style rainfall shower and a selection of Arran Aromatics toiletries. We elected to eat in the hotel which has good range of food including local seafood and reasonably priced wine. Tarbert is a great little harbour town for a weekend trip and the Anchor hotel is a great place to base your visit with the Barge cabins providing a unique twist on the harbour view – highly recommended!”
