All places have their own dialect but only the North East of Scotland has Doric.
From ‘furry boots’ to ‘ill-trickett cuddies’, it is a colourful tongue which can turn any night out into an adventure.
Embrace the Doric with today’s Big Deal on an overnight stay at Soprano St Magnus Court Hotel in Aberdeen.
Originally the Caledonian Railway Hotel, Sopranos is a turreted extravaganza of a hotel overlooking the harbour.
It’s on Guild Street – a great location for a city break. The ferry terminal, bus and train stations are all within a hop, skip and a jump.
The hotel is also ideally placed for exploring the party bars and brasseries of the city’s Merchant Quarter.
Union Square, the North East’s newest and largest shopping centre, is a two minute walk.
Available for Thursday to Sunday night stays, this Big Deal is for two people to have an overnight stay in a double or twin room.
The offer also includes a three course dinner in the hotel’s Sopranos Bistro.
Each bedroom is individually decorated and all rooms are en-suite with baths or showers and offer TVs, tea and coffee making facilities, a trouser press and hair dryers.
Breakfast is not included, however you can have an early morning wander to find several places nearby that offer food first thing.
Three course dinner
At Sopranos Bistro, the kitchen aims to produce simple food using local produce.
Your starters include the soup of the day; a selection of olives and the house fish cakes. Main courses include the house steak burger with chorizo, penne chicken arrabiata and a selection of pizza.
Other dishes are available at a supplement.
Please note there is usually live entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings. The wine bar and bistro can be very busy with non residents so please make your dinner reservation when booking your hotel room.
Soprano St Magnus Court Hotel has attracted plenty of happy reviews on TripAdvisor:
‘Great stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Good location short walk to train, bus stations and shopping centre. This is an old building but loved it anyway. Room spacious, clean and tidy, tea, coffee, ensuite. Can get bit noisy outside at weekends depending on which room you may have.’
‘One minute from train station (at Union Square Mall), two minutes from port, next to Aberdeen Museum and near three multiplex cinemas. Very clean, nice large rooms, all en-suite… nice bar, excellent staff… Limited car parking.’
‘Quirky but lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel which is in a great position in Aberdeen. Just across from the shopping centre and a five minute walk to the town centre. We had dinner and it was good. We ordered Riojas and were disappointed at how expensive it was per glass. That being said it was delicious… very pleasant staff.’
Aberdeen has great night life and this offer is a brilliant way to experience it.
You’ll have a great night out and, if you’re lucky, you’ll learn some new words and, who knows, you may even make some new friends.
