Opened in the summer of 2017, The Plumpy Duck was launched as part of a refurbishment of The Bowfield Hotel & Country Club in Howwood, Renfrewshire. With richly upholstered chairs, wooden beams and cosy booths, the restaurant has a comfortably rustic feel. It is a welcoming space for family groups, couples, working lunches, afternoon tea and morning coffees. The area around the open fire in the lounge is popular for pre and post-dinner drinks.
Dry-aged Scottish beef, seafood from Loch Fyne Fisheries and game sourced from Highland estates take pride of place on the modern Scottish menu. Options such as the steak and ale pie; the beer batter haddock and the three cheese macaroni – are very traditional. Alternate choices, like the chilli lime beef fillet salad; the panko crab cakes and the garlic buttered langoustines with rocket, baby gem and pomegranate salad, demonstrate the kitchen’s more exotic flair. Dessert might be the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch and vanilla ice cream or the peanut butter mousse with a honeyed oat crumble.
The Plumpy Duck and Bowfield Hotel & Country Club are approximately a twenty minute drive to Glasgow city centre. Glasgow International Airport is twelve minutes from the hotel. Close to the hotel, the A737 leads to the M8 and the motorway network. Howwood train station is within close reach of the hotel and links to Glasgow city centre or Ayrshire. There is ample, free parking on site.
