About The Sun Inn
Award-winning gastropub in Dalkeith
Previously both an AA Pub of the Year and a Scottish Gastropub of the Year, The Sun Inn in Dalkeith has built up a stellar reputation. Beyond the welcoming exterior of this former coaching inn by the River Esk, you will find a stylishly rustic dining space serving Scottish cuisine, cask ales and fine wines. The Sun Inn would make a lovely spot for a special lunch or dinner, perhaps combined with a day out exploring Midlothian.
Local produce, creative flourishes
The Sun Inn works with the best ‘local hero’ suppliers across Scotland to bring the diverse tastes of the nation to diners. These include Welch’s Fishmonger, John Gilmour Butchers, Gosford Farm, Belhaven Smokehouse and Stewart Brewing.
The menu changes with the seasons and offers grill, fish, speciality mains and pub classics sections. From the grill, choose from a variety of steaks sourced from 35 day dry-aged Tweed Valley beef, including ribeye, fillet, sirloin and t-bone, as well as gammon steak, pork chops and chicken kebabs.
Seafood choices might feature the East Lothian Coast Lobster thermidor, the Belhaven smoked haddock fishcakes and the beer battered haddock with beef dripping chips.
Speciality mains could include the Gressingham duck breast with pressed duck leg, duck fat roasties, carrot & orange puree and marmalade jus, or the game plate with Perthshire venison loin, gamekeeper’s pie, seared pigeon breast, wee Scottish mushroom, kale crisps, beetroot and chestnut jus.
From the pub classics section, tuck into choices like the butter pastry steak pie with creamy mash, the slow-braised Indian spicy lamb with fragrant rice and, for veggies, the mushroom stroganoff with buttered basmati.
