About The Paper Mill
All-day restaurant and bar in Lasswade
The Paper Mill is an all-day restaurant and bar on Westmill Road in the tranquil conservation village of Lasswade. As the name indicates, the premises were once a mill. The sensitive use of reclaimed materials and found objects has produced a welcoming, contemporary interior which is sympathetic to both the building’s industrial heritage and the village’s historical surroundings. The Paper Mill overlooks the River Esk and the spacious outdoor terrace beside the river is very popular during the warmer months. Excellent service, a family-friendly atmosphere and live entertainment keep things buzzing throughout the year.
Dedicated to seasonal and local produce
From breakfast, lunch and dinner, to afternoon tea and Sunday roasts, The Paper Mill has dining options for every occasion. What unites every dish is the kitchen’s commitment to local and seasonal sourcing.
While the ingredients are, as far as possible, Scottish, the flavours used come from around the globe. Confit duck leg is served with a chorizo cassoulet while the calamari comes with cashews, lime, pickled ginger and coriander. The dry aged steaks and burgers are complemented by lighter options such as sweetcorn and chilli fritters; the chick pea, spinach and feta burger or the prosciutto-wrapped monkfish with a red pepper salsa. The menus change regularly as does the line-up of Scottish and guest craft beers at The Paper Mill.
The Paper Mill has ample parking while the number 31 bus goes to and from Edinburgh and the number 40 serves Penicuik and Portobello. Local attractions include Kings Acre and Broomieknowe golf courses.
