About El Gato Negro
Classy tapas in the city centre
Known for its distinctive black cat frontage, El Gato Negro Tapas is an award-winning dining spot on King Street. The restaurant is situated in a historic three storey townhouse with an open kitchen and excellent street views, with dining on all three floors, each with their own individual style & atmosphere. Food is complemented by a carefully chosen range of Spanish wines, sherries, spirits, tonics, beers and cocktails. The restaurant also boasts a unique retractable roof, perfect for making the most of the sun and stars when the weather permits.
Spanish flavours and seasonal local ingredients
El Gato Negro’s Chef Patron, Simon Shaw, is passionate about creating simple, bold and confident tapas dishes that conjure up the spirit of Barcelona, Madrid and San Sebastián. All dishes are made from fresh, seasonal ingredients, many locally sourced, before being elegantly presented on the plate.
The tapas menu is split into various sections, including nibbles, charcuterie, meats; fish and shellfish, and vegetable dishes.
Menus change to reflect the seasons, but sample tapas might include the manchego with bittersweet green figs, the chargrilled whole rack of baby pork ribs glazed with Pedro Ximénez sherry; the tiger prawns with chilli, garlic, lemon and paprika; the cod pil-pil with piperrada vegetables and ajillo, and the patatas bravas with spicy tomato fritarda sauce and aioli.
Desserts might include decadent delights such as the chocolate fondue, marshmallows and fresh fruit for two, the tangerine cheesecake with milk chocolate crémeux, or the selection of artisan Spanish cheeses.
