Innovative and independently-owned, the left bank is a contemporary bar and kitchen on Gibson Street in Glasgow’s West End. Quirky and cool, but not self consciously so, it has its own sense of style which is evident from its monolithic concrete bar to the muted designer lighting. With a mezzanine area and outdoor bench, it welcomes everybody from morning coffee drinkers to dining couples and groups of celebrating students.
With several menus covering breakfast to dinner, the left bank offers a wide choice of well travelled dishes. Diners can start the day with a Lebanese breakfast featuring fried hallouni and shakshuka eggs; lunch on cauliflower and onion bhajis or a pulled pork sloppy Joe before tucking into an evening meal of garlic masala fish, prawn, squid and mussel curry. Clever and often exotic spicing is the norm. The North Sea haddock comes with rosemary chips while the humous is flavoured with harissa, coriander and dukkha. While the flavours come from all over the world, the kitchen tries to use as much locally sourced and seasonal produce as possible.
The left bank is on Gibson Street in Glasgow’s West End. There is restricted on-street parking and pay car parking at the nearby Kelvinbridge subway station. Local attractions include Kelvingrove Park and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
