    Lovely lunch &service

Booked for first post lockdown lunch , friendly welcome , very covid safe with pull down screens between each table . Lunch menu covered all bases with good choices including veggie . I had mussels which came in a light tomato broth well flavoured and mussels were well cooked , followed with classic lasagna - what’s not to like. Coffee was included in the bargain price of £14:95 . Nice ambience , friendly service and good food , will come back and hopefully enjoy a vino next time

    Small plates

We had 3 small plates each to share. There was a great choice of dishes to choose from. The ones we picked were very tasty. The pollpette were excellent and the best I have tasted.

Contemporary Italian dining in the West End

A city centre institution for two decades, La Lanterna’s fairly recent arrival on Great Western Road has been a welcome addition to the West End. Decorated in soft whites and pale greys, the cosy stripped wood interior has an airy, rustic chic vibe. Classic and classy Italian might be the best way to describe the extensive menus, with fresh, quality cuisine being the focus.

Classic dishes with a modern twist

The a la carte menu at La Lanterna is extensive, so you may find it a pleasing challenge to choose your dishes. Expect a range of all-time Italian favourites with flourishes designed to appeal to contemporary diners.

Much of the pasta is made fresh on the premises using fine flour, free range eggs and sea salt. Highlights include crab-filled ravioli in a lobster-tailed sauce with fresh dill & cream or chicken with asparagus spears, cream & parmesan. Veggies can sample the spinach & ricotta ravioli in a sage & butter sauce, while the risotto mare monti with monkfish, king prawns, red onions & courgettes has been gaining praise.

Meat and fish mains include classic pollo Milanese or pan-fried scallops with Fontina cheese sauce. If you fancy a grill steak, then the selection includes Scottish prime beef dry-aged on the bone for at least 35 days, then hand cut by the restaurant’s master butcher.

As well as dessert favourites such as a tiramisu made from a 45-year-old recipe, you can also sample dolce dessert cocktails like espresso martini.

A small plate menu is available on select days and includes treats like deep-fried calamari, arancini arrabbiata and polenta fries.

West End transport links and attractions

La Lanterna West End is just a two-minute walk from Kelvinbridge Underground and there are plenty of bus links into the city centre. You will also be within easy reach of both The Stand Comedy Club and Kelvingrove Park, plus pay parking can be found around the corner on Belmont Crescent.
