Was really looking forward to our first visit to Hotel du Vin. Sadly will not be back. Food did not reach our expectations. Disappointed in choices offered on lunch menu. Chicken leg unbelievably small. Brown lentils very bland. My husbands spaghetti was swimming (literally!!) in oil. Still about an inch left in the dish when he had eaten the spaghetti.
I couldn't taste the 'mint' in the ice cream with the torte desert. Sticky toffee pudding was ok. However to go back to being seated we were asked if we would like water? Yes we replied. Would we like still or sparkling? Still we asked for, not understanding that we were now purchasing a bottle. We were never given the option of a jug of tap water as is common in restaurants we frequent. (We noticed others round about had jugs of water).
Side dishes to complement the main dish at a cost of £3.95 each was shocking!! Fortunately my husband ordered fries which I must admit was the best part of the meal. So on finishing our meal we asked for bill which to be honest I hadn't expected to pay anything!! Surprise £1.30 added on for lemonade we didn't have oh and a 'small' service charge. My husband was embarrassed now. I queried the lemonade, and got a half hearted apology. To be honest I wasn't convinced this was a genuine mistake. Why also do you ask when booking for any information? I took the time to tell you that we were celebrating my birthday and husbands retirement. No acknowledgement was ever given to this. It would have been a nice touch. I can say the young girl who served us was very attentive. That was the only saving grace I may add. Look forward to hearing your views!!
