Fanny Trollopes Review

  • Rating Fanny Didn't Delight (Rating 3/5)
We visited Fanny Trollope’s for the 5pm lunch and were warmly welcomed into a cold and empty restaurant. The starters of baked sole with caper salad was light and summery and the chestnut mushrooms on toast with pesto were sweet, rich and juicy. Unfortunately the mains disappointed with warm mackerel fillets on kale and ratatouille. The kale was undercooked and the flavours just didn't work. The chicken breast with crumbs of Ayrshire ham and black pudding came with same salad as the starter. The idea was good but the chicken was luke warm and would have been much better served with mash. The deal included a small glass of the house wine supplied by Inverarity Vaults. The reds of syrah or grenache and syrah were definitely French vin de pays lacking any depth of flavour and the pinot grigio was little better. Maybe we visited on an off day when comparing with other reviewers and if we return should take advantage of the BYOB facility. Definitely needs to improve some of the dishes to compete in the West End.
