Nice idea, good place to try something different

We went on the offer £15 for two small plates with cocktail/ wine. The food tasted lovely but some of the small plates were absolutely tiny! The meat ones like beef or pork.i think if you weren’t on a deal it would be overly expensive. The fish tacos were divine but...tiny! Byres Road has lots of restaurants serving small plates which are substantially bigger and better value for money. We couldn’t complain about flavour though. It was a Sunday evening and we were aware it’s also a bar but the music was really loud. Making conversation difficult but there’s a good atmosphere. We definitely will come back and try brunch.

Very tasty and unusual food - if a little light on quantity. Filled up on desserts which were also superb. Good service; will go back soon.

Pacific-style cuisine in the West End

Embargo is a sleek eating and drinking spot on Byres Road. Promising the vibrant flavours of Australasia and East Asia, you can sample creative small plates that are both healthy and indulgent. Botanical cocktails and a resident DJ every Thursday, Friday and Saturday make this a lively spot to dine.

Small plates, bar bites and ramen bowls

The menu at Embargo focuses on Asian tapas dishes that are ideal for either snacking or sharing, as well as hearty ramen bowls. Choices can change, but expect bar bite options like tempura popcorn and the boneless Korean fried chicken.

Small plates might include the crispy suckling pig pork belly with jalapeño pineapple salsa, the salt & chilli baby squid with lime dip and the massaman cauliflower cheese. A vegan choice could be the moromi miso aubergine with honey & pomegranate.

Ramen dishes could feature sirloin steak, suckling pig pork belly or fermented oyster mushrooms.

Embargo also offers an imaginative brunch menu that, alongside a classic full breakfast, includes ricotta hotcakes with frozen blackberries & pecans and a ginger sweet potato goats’ cheese hash with poached egg.

Heart of the West End

Embargo is on Byres Road, next to all the main shops and just a stroll away from Hillhead underground station. You can find pay parking at Lilybank Car Park.

This would make a chic dining choice before heading to the Grosvenor cinema on Ashton Lane or hitting the buzzing West End bars.
