Opened in the spring of 2014, El Gusto has quickly settled in to the West End. A lively, cosy and independent tapas cafe, its brightly coloured walls and Spanish bric-a-brac lend it an inviting, sunny ambience. Acoustic performers add sparkle at the weekends. El Gusto is a laidback, casual, neighbourhood hangout which is as happy to serve a simple morning coffee as to lay on a tapas banquet. Currently unlicensed, diners are encouraged to BYOB for a small corkage.
Led by an award-winning chef from Seville, the kitchen produces a wide selection of authentic pinchos, or bites, and larger tapas portions. Popular dishes include the hot and spicy Don Coyote meatballs; rabbit in a silky almond sauce and grilled sardines pepped up with garlic and lemon. The menus also feature familiar tapas classics such as tortilla, jamon Serrano and chorizo cooked in red wine.
El Gusto is on Gibson Street in Glasgow’s West End. The nearest subway station is Kelvinbridge and buses run to aand from the city centre via the nearby Eldon Street, Woodlands Road and Great Western Road. There is some on-street parking by the cafe. Local attractions include Kelvingrove Park and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
