My husband loves this sharing idea because I have a small appetite and he would eat the cow and all the dressings,just not this time. We have eaten in Bovine on two occasions previous to this one, the first time was a'la carte and all three courses were delicious and perfectly presented,so when we saw a coupon for it we jumped at it. This was for chateaubriand,lobster, sides and prosecco and was also delicious and perfectly presented, in fact the onion ring side dish (one of the extras)has my husband hooked.
Unfortunately this latest voucher, which we were really looking forward to was a real disappointment. This was for a couple of cocktails and a mixed grill of sirloin steak, chicken, lamb chops, and venison sausages with the usual fries, cherry tomatoes and a little bid of leaves. We ordered side salad and of course onion rings. Whilst it wasn't particularly busy when we arrived and orders were taken quickly, it did fill quickly. It is fair to say that things slowed and we waited a while for water and a lot longer for food. Unfortunately this is where the real disappointment is, as it doesn't matter if you have a bit of a wait when the music is good and you can people watch if the food is pleasing, however the steak had a lot of gristle and I would argue the poor quality of the one we had, obvious to all who witnessed the waste that went back. But then also everything went cool really quickly, nothing retained any heat and I just had to stop eating. At one point I managed to speak to a young waiter who apologised. I am afraid even the onion rings didn't pass muster as they seemed to be out of the fryer for a while. My husband thought it must have been caused by cold plates but the server said 'beware the plates were hot'.
I am sure all in all it is still an excellent restaurant and perhaps we were unlucky on this occasion but still we are disappointed.
