About Ashoka Finnieston
Great little restaurant close to Kelvingrove Art Galleries & Museum
Brilliant value - £15pp for a starter up to £4.50 (so that means pakora) plus a main up to £10.95 - loads to choose from on the vegetarian or house special menu, where you can have chicken or lamb. A drink is also included with this deal and a rice / plain nan or 2 chapatis. We all had pakora to start (one chicken and 2 haggis). The portion size was excellent. This was followed by 3 chicken curries - a Korma, dansak and a ceylonese Korma. A fried rice, plain rice and plain nan plus 3 soft drinks completed our order. Fantastic value and excellent quality and service, definitely recommend you visit here, you won't be disappointed!
Fantastic food, great meal!
Took a newbie to The Ashoka Finnieston on Wed eve. I was not surprised that he commented that the place, atmosphere, service and food was one of the best experiences he had had in years! Our pakora starters were fresh, crisp and so tasty. The curries were excellent. He chose Chicken Tikka Chasni I had Lamb Spicy Jalfraisi. Both our mains were more than excellent. My lamb was tender, soft and melted in my mouth. The chicken tikka was excellent and the sauce was so flavourful. Because it was my friend's belated birthday, we decided to have dessert! Very unusual for me, but celebrations needs must. I had mango kulfi - delicious! The apple tart was well received. My friend lives in New Lanark and said no matter what - the drive was well worth the food.
A must to visit. You won't be disappointed.
Indian restaurant near Kelvingrove
A West End landmark since 1973, the Ashoka on Argyle Street has an extensive menu of authentic Indian dishes. Located a stone’s throw from Kelvingrove Art Gallery, it has a cosy atmosphere and attentive staff.
Punjabi dishes & connoisseur choices
Mostly Punjabi in style, if you feel like sharing there are meat and fish platters to share such as the tandoori mixed platter with tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, seekh kebab, lamb tikka and king prawns.
The old favourites are featured in the house specials from your choice of chasni and south Indian garlic chilli to a rich bhoona.
If you’re looking for a more unusual choice, there are ‘connoisseurs’ choices’ from the delicious sikandri lamb; lamb shanks marinated overnight with ginger, garlic, green chillies and Indian spices, served with garlic potatoes to the tandoori murgh makanwala; whole pieces of chicken tikka simmered in tomato, honey with lashings of cream and spices.
As with most Indian restaurants, there are numerous vegetarian options available.
