We had a tandoori meal which was finger lickin good. Tried so hard to finish it but the portion was big and we were beaten into submission. Will go again. Enjoyed it so much.

Indian restaurant in Newton Mearns

The Royal is an Indian restaurant on Harvie Avenue in Newton Mearns. Under new management and refurbished in late 2016, it has a striking modern decor. Floor to ceiling windows keep it light and bright while a large picture of the Taj Mahal adds grandeur.

Classic and modern Indian dishes

The Royal’s chefs produce an enticing array of much loved Indian dishes. The a la carte menu has a selection of classic dopiaza, rogan josh and korma curries as well as an extensive range of dishes cooked in the tandoor oven. For something a little different, guests could try the Punjabi-style salmon or the Bombay bakhra – diced lamb simmered Karahi-style in a fricassee of sliced onions, ginger, green capsicums, tomatoes, green chillies, kali jeera and fresh spinach leaves. The Royal buffet nights are always popular and they offer diners the opportunity to try several different dishes.
There are European dishes for those who have yet to be converted to the delights of Indian food. Alternatively, you could mix and match your culinary traditions and order up the haggis pakora followed by the chicken tikka masala – a dish which many claim was invented in Glasgow.
