Lively gastro pub dining in Shawlands
Popular Shawlands institution, Church on the Hill, has undergone a revamp. The cavernous pub has been restored, reworked and reimagined, with refreshed decor and a brand new menu. Alongside a hearty pub grub selection, guests can enjoy brunch until 3pm each day and even mix themselves a remedy at the DIY Bloody Mary bar. There is also a new cocktail list created with the expert alchemists at The Spiritualist bar. The focus is on building a true community vibe, where visitors can add photos of their pooches to the Doggy Wall of Fame, browse paperbacks in the book exchange and even take away a souvenir painted bottle.
Classic and contemporary pub cuisine
The kitchen brigade at Church on the Hill take a conscientious approach to traditional pub grub, crafting nutritional dishes made from local, independent produce.
Menus can change regularly, but expect satisfying favourites with a modern twist. These might include the Chicken Balmoral kiev with spring onion mash, the steak pie with hand-cut chips and the chicken coconut curry.
Veggies can tuck into the three cheese macaroni, the parsnip gnocchi or the crispy crumbed brie, while vegans might fancy sampling the Moving Mountains pumpkin spiced burger.
The brunch selection is imaginative, and alongside classic full breakfasts and eggs benedict, you can tuck into croque jock with Ayrshire honey roast ham or brie & poached pear on toasted ciabatta.
The dessert range features freshly baked goodies from the family-owned Big Bear Bakery in Glasgow. Other tempting choices include gingerbread cheesecake and chocolate & eggnog trifle.
