Ingram Wynd used to be a favourite place to eat. The food was always good. However, over the last year something has happened to the quality of the food and not for the better. Even dining from the A La Carte menu is disappointing. We left it some time since our last meal to see if things had improved and I'm sorry to say they haven't.
Took 20 minutes before our starters arrived. At least the haggis, neeps and tatties and tomato and basil bruschetta were probably the best part of the meal.
The fish and chips looked like a huge portion of food but was several thin strips of fish coated in very greasy, puffed up batter which made it look like more. Whatever accompanied them it wasn't chips but huge dry wedges of potato.
The salmon main was described as glazed with chili sauce. What was served up was a piece of overcooked salmon drenched in some chili 'gloop'. The roast potatoes certainly hadn't been freshly roasted and like the chips had a strange taste of old cooking oil.
We decided against pudding and just had coffee. Used to be that a small square of tablet came with the coffee. Even that has gone now and it was an After Eight. Or was it as it was an unwrapped mint?
For the price there are many restaurants in the area who serve up quality food at pre-theatre prices. Ingram Wynd sadly seems to have lost its way. Shame as the restaurant itself has a good atmosphere.
