We had decided to book a last minute meal so made a reservation for Guys as had been here many times before and have always had a good experience. Upon arrival we were advised that our table would not be ready for 20 minutes, the owner, Guy, wasn't working this particular evening however the female manager running the shift more or less said to us we could go elsewhere or have a drink at the bar until our table became available I think at this point it set the tone for the evening, we opted to order a bottle of wine to drink at the bar and await for our table to become available. The wine itself was fine but the cheapest bottle of house wine they offer is £22.
The manager on shift did come up to say our table was available we then took our seats and ordered, the starters arrived which were fine, we waited over 30 minutes for our mains to arrive, the manager more or less put the plates down not even acknowledging us i.e. offering any sauce or pepper etc, we had to ask the gent behind the bar for this. I had the Steak and my partner had the Scottish Tapas dish which is a combination of Steak Pie, Mince and Tatties - could not fault the food.
Overall the service left a lot to be desired and was really quite an uncomfortable experience. I have dined in Guys on many occasions previously and have always had a great experience, the food was good but unfortunately the service was shocking, the Manager on duty had a complete attitude so not sure whether she'd had a bad day or not. Not sure because I booked via 5pm we were offered such poor service, we weren't even offered the wine with the deal - and it was far too uncomfortable to ask for this. I had written to the restaurant so Guy could look into this issue 2 weeks ago though have not had a response to date which sadly confirms that standards seem to have slipped drastically.
