Cafe India is a popular Indian restaurant on Albion Street in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City. Established in 1987, it has always moved with the times while staying true to authentic Indian cooking. The kitchen uses fresh and natural ingredients to create both traditional Indian dishes and innovative, new flavours.
The Cafe India kitchen team like to fuse flavours so that the starters on offer might include haggis pakora or Bombay mussels steamed and then tossed with garlic, white wine and cream. Other appetisers, such as the mixed tandoori platter or the assorted puris are more traditional. Old favourites such as bhoonas, biryanis sit alongside a great selection of chef’s specials like the lamb genius – lamb with a touch of Guinness – or the zaikedar – a mix of chicken, lamb and king prawn in a ginger and garlic cream sauce. Dare devils may wish to try the tikka chance – the hottest curry on the menu.
Located on Albion Street in the Merchant City, Cafe India is a short walk from the City Halls, Old Fruitmarket and the Tron Theatre. It is roughly a five minute walk from the High Street and Argyle Street train stations and a ten minute walk from Queen Street Station. There are ample pay parking facilities nearby.
