Bar Soba Merchant City Review

  • Rating Good location and surroundings for this edition of Bar Soba (Rating 4.0/5)
I've always liked Bar Soba since visiting its original Mitchell Street location over 12 years ago. This was my first visit to the Albion Street/Merchant Square restaurant and I have to say, my first impressions were very favourable. The restaurant is spacious, unlike some of its other branches which, although not cramped, are maybe best described as cozy. While deciding what to order, I had a Negroni cocktail which at £8 was overly expensive (a gin martini was even more costly at £9) for a non-exclusive Glasgow establishment but it was nicely made. Starters of Thai Broccoli and Aubergine were very nice indeed; crisp, crunchy with a nice punch. I had Thai Red Curry Chicken for the main and I had to resist showing myself up by wolfing it down. It was just delicious, although one of our party felt it was a bit on the hot side. I loved it. Service was on the whole pretty good.
