I organised this as a birthday treat for my dad and The Buttery did not disappoint.
My dad arrived slightly earlier than I and he must have told the staff it was a birthday treat... A warm welcome with a glass of pink fizz and the choice of the pre-theatre or Al a cart menus. Despite the great value for money on the pre-theatre, we decided to order from the other menu as we both fancied the beef dish.
The mushroom soup was delicious although it could have been slightly warmer. The Cullen skink was amazing. The complimentary homemade bread never disappoints; so much so that we had seconds.
The beef was cooked to perfection and tasty. My only issue was that due to eating too much bread, I couldn't finish my dish. Cue father to swoop in and clean up. We skipped dessert as were stuffed to the gunnels and ordered a couple of coffees. We didn't realise immediately, but these were accompanied with petit fours and a lovely chocolate happy birthday message. Unfortunately, I couldn't take the credit :)
The Buttery has a great atmosphere; lunch times are busy with business customers as well as families and there's a nice low buzz to the place. The service and speed of the meal is perfect. I adore the decor with the signature roses, silver cockerel ornaments and mismatched china tea sets all set off with crisp, clean white linen table cloths and napkins. Classy and homely.
As we left, the lovely helpful staff wished my dad happy birthday, a perfect ending to a perfect lunch.
