We had a prepaid 5pm voucher which we showed the staff when we arrived. At the end of the meal, the the waiter brought us a bill for £39. I explained that we thought it was prepaid and showed him the voucher again . He apologised. We said we only expected to have a bill for parking. The waiter went away to check and came back to say it was £5 which we paid. He said we would need to take the bill to the reception desk to fill in details on an iPad. When we got to reception the receptionist asked us how long we'd been in the restaurant. It had been less than 2 hours and the receptionist said that it would be £2. We explained we'd already paid £5 and she said that was for 5 hours and she would arrange a refund which she did. We understood that number plate recognition was used by the hotel. There was no barrier when we left. Should we have paid for parking at all? Does this make sense in a restaurant? Should customers pay to park? Having been here before, I expected to hand my meal receipt to reception and pay a small fee or have the parking cancelled. There is no clarity for the customer and staff also seem to make up the rules on the spot. Management need to brief staff and sort this out. Not sure I'd love to go back until this is sorted out.
