Rating Birdtree and Bellfish (Rating 2.0/5)
Nice surroundings but first the 5pm map pointer was in the wrong place, a block along from the actual. Once we eventually found it (to be part of the Lorne Hotel), the maitre'd had no booking for us. He did fit us in but once again had no 'market menu' other than a piece of paper he quickly read to us which had various items scored out written on it. So, not able to decide from a list read to us, we changed from the booked option of 2 courses for 11.95 to 20% off the a la carte. The food was just OK but the chicken chaat came as chicken legs which are not easy to eat covered in sauce. The haggis bites were uninteresting. My partner loved the sea-bass but my choice of buckie venison burger was lacking in taste and contained gristle and some of the chips were not cooked through. We tried the deep fried Mars bar but this was also rather dull. Throughout the meal the place was quite cold. The waitress was good and the head did say that they were actually due to start this deal Monday but that wasn't made clear at the time of booking. In the end it all cost much more than the original booking would have been. All in all rather disappointing; time to shape up Lorne!
