La Bonne Auberge Review

  • Rating Good food at La Bonne Auberge but.... (Rating 4.2/5)
The restricted menu offered enough choice for us and for most others I would believe. Service was really good - attentive without being intrusive. Food was good. Nicely presented, sufficient in amount and very well cooked. I have 2 grumbles about this offer. Firstly it advertises a carafe of wine, when really you get a half carafe this really is misrepresentation, and secondly they put a service charge straight onto the bill (almost like fining you for taking a deal). We eat out pretty often and I can't remember the last time this was done automatically. I don't like being forced to pay for service as I think we are good tippers if the service deserves it. I know waiting staff don't make much money and like them to get any tip I leave however putting the charge onto the bill is unnecessary and whilst it won't put me off going back I really don't like this practice. I know you can ask for it to be removed but why should I have to? Provide good efficient service and I'll leave a 12% tip anyway. All in all worth going to but get rid of the automatic service charge it's not necessary.
