La Bonne Auberge Review

  • Rating Disappointed (Rating 3.2/5)
Firstly- I have been here a few times previously and rated it very highly so choose it for sons graduation/birthday celebration as they did a Graduation menu - 3 courses with bubbly for £25. Actually confirmed it in person earlier in the day and on arrival. Staff didn't seem switched on and seemed to ignore the celebratory aspect of the occasion which wasn't even mentioned when the waitress brought the menu which was for 2 courses at £18.95. Queried this and they confirmed it was the same menu but just choose three courses with bubbly provided. The menu was in our opinion (there was six of us) very limited- only 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 sweets. Cauliflower soup was fine but the others all opted for pate which was apparently tasteless. Mains were chicken x4 and fish x2. Only one of our party enjoyed the main course. Didn't bother with the sweet. To add to the disappointment of the day I feel we didn't receive enough attention from the waiters- our table had only three water glasses for 6 people and when we brought our drinks over from the bar at the beginning no effort was made to assist in clearing the table to make some space. After a while the inevitable happened and a full glass of soft drink spilled over the table and onto my suit trousers. Staff were quick to mop up the floor but no effort made to ask about my discomfort and I wasn't making a fuss. Disappointingly I had to ask for a refill of the spilt drink as staff didn't think to offer a replacement. Unfortunately this all resulted in a very disappointing evening out in what was supposed to be a celebration event. Staff need to be more switched on and attentive and the menu provided did not meet our expectations. While my wife and I will probably return given our previous good experience but my sons and partners are unlikely to return.
