I was disappointed with the food selection and also the quality. Service was excellent though, our waitress was perfect- very attentive and a lovely personality.
It was 4 courses and didn't include coffee after the meal. I would have foregone the first course for coffee. Also, the starters were not to my taste.
There were spoons to serve the salad but it would have been better had there also been a fork or even tongs. Tricky to pick up salad with a dessert spoon. Soup for second course - carrot and potato which was okay. My soup spoon had something pink and sticky on the handle.
For third course there was a choice of a cooked breakfast (a strange main course if you had the soup beforehand) or roast beef or chicken or some others. The roast beef was tough. The chicken was lovely and flavourful and lots of it. Not a lot of vegetables for two people though.
4th course was a rubarb cheesecake or fruit tart or some others. Lots of ginger and not a lot of rubarb in the cheesecake but nice all the same. Tart was nice.
We were first in the dining room and seated next to the place where the waiters got the cutlery and next to what looked like a store room. I never gave it much thought until there was a constant stream of people going to the cupboard or getting cutlery just a foot from our table. Really - why would they seat us there in an empty dining room?
I wouldn't return I'm afraid. Knowing how much they charge in Chez Mal, I think it was not that great, was quite mediocre and we left feeling disappointed.
Our waitress made our day though I have to say. She was excellent.
