I booked this deal after being told that the Apex was a quality establishment for food/drinks but I cannot say that I agree. This deal was a birthday treat for my mum and we both left with a sour taste in our mouths.
Upon arrival the waiting staff were very friendly however, throughout our visit of over an hour and half were spoken with on only two other occasions - both of which involved bringing tea or food to our table. At no point were we offered a drinks menu or any additional services, which I would happily have paid for.
The afternoon tea itself was the greatest disappointment. We were finally brought our tea and cups about 15 mins after being seated; the food however did not arrive for another 30 minutes. This meant that we had finished out tea before the food was served and we were not offered or asked if we would like refills, which gain I would have paid for. The waiting staff of three, in a restaurant which had only 4 other tables occupied were difficult to get ahold of and seemed to be overwhelmed on an extremely quiet afternoon.
The savoury snacks offered were nice enough, although generic (small ham and mayo sandwich; small beef and mustard sandwich; egg mayo mini-roll; mini cheese tart).
The sweet treats were not good; both the chocolate brownie slice and lemon drizzle cake were dry. A small saving grace were the scones - fresh and provided with lovely jam pots and plenty of clotted cream.
I take my mum out for afternoon tea every year for her birthday - a family tradition. Needless to say, I will not be taking her to the Apex again. A shame as this beautiful establishment, with nice staff, has been let down by some poor service on the day and very poor quality food.
