Love this place
This is a restaurant that we have eaten in many times. We like the food [especially the steaks), the atmosphere and the service. So on our recent visit to St Andrews, we made a booking through 5pm, offering 30% off a la carte menu. On arrival, we were informed that there was no fillet steak available😪. We made our choices and were not disappointed, the truffle and Parmesan fries were a wonderful accompaniment to our steaks.
After dinner we were joined for drinks by friends and we had a lovely time sitting in the restaurant and staff were very attentive.
The only negative aspect to our visit was when I said that we had booked through 5pm website, the waitress asked for a voucher! When I explained that there was no voucher she asked for proof of reservation, even though she checked our booking on her computer. Bizarre! She then said that we could choose only from starter and mains menus, but not the grill! I asked her to check this information. This seemed to contradict the deal we had booked. At this point we were quite prepared to leave and eat elsewhere. She returned to say we could choose grill menu too. Wasn’t impressed by this. Perhaps a little staff training may ease these problems.
Loved the meal and will definitely return.
Cosy evening dining, this is for you!
The crab starter was delicious and steaks cooked to perfection with all sides and sauces were tasty and worked well together.
Only slight negative is the cheese option, cheese tasteless but not sure if just because not at room temperature. Good size portion though but all very safe and little differential in the options tastes.
Steak and seafood on South Street
Rogue is a restaurant, cocktail bar and small gin distillery on South Street. Housed in what used to be Drouthy Neebors pub, Rogue specialises in serving up dry-aged beef, locally landed seafood, modern cuisine, gin cocktails and Champagne.
This would be a great spot for an oyster and Champagne fuelled date, a slap-up meal with friends or even a hearty business lunch. If you are lucky, you might even get to see the in-house gin brand, Felons, being created in real time.
Fresh, locally sourced cuisine
Dry-aged beef and locally landed seafood are the headline acts on Rogue’s food menus.
Smoked salmon, lobster fresh off the boat and hand-dived scallops are just a few examples of what is on offer. You can also enjoy freshly shucked oysters served au naturel or with toppings such as Talisker mist, Bloody Mary granita and smoked chipotle chilli.
Beef steaks are sourced from local butcher, Minick’s, and dried out for a minimum of fifty days in on-premise display cabinets. You can take your pick from a wide range of individual and sharing steaks, including ribeye, sirloin and chateaubriand. All are served with a side and choice of sauce.
More veggie-friendly options include the spinach gnocchi with charred onions and smoked garlic butter sauce or the wild sorrel & pumpkin flatbread with saffron dahl.
South Street transport links and attractions
Rogue is close to Blackfriars chapel and offers on street parking. St. Andrews Links golf club is only a five minute drive away, making this the perfect spot for a meal after a round. The University of St. Andrews is a ten minute stroll from the restaurant.
