First visit to this restaurant but certainly wont be the last. I had purchased a 5pm deal of 3 course lunch plus a glass of champagne. Some of the best food I have ever tasted. The deal cost £29 for two & would normally cost £19.95 for 3 courses without champagne or £17.95 for two courses so a great deal. Not a massive choice of starters, mains or pud's but that is good to me. I'm always wary of a restaurant who offer too much choice. How fresh can that be! I had a charcuterie plate serving Parma ham, salami & a homemade ham hough terrine which was amazing served with pickled caper berries & cornichons & Dijon mustard. The whole plate was tasty & refreshing. My husband chose homemade tomato & basil soup with bread. Other starters on offer were ham hough terrine with pickles & smoked salmon. For mains my hubbie had chicken with dauphinoise potato's which he said had wished it wouldn't end! I had a smoked haddock chowder. I have never had a chowder like this before. To say it was amazing would be an understatement. A rich creamy fish sauce rather than soup base filled with smoked haddock, chunks of salmon, mussels & pieces of veg & small chunks of charlotte potato's. This was also topped with large shell on king prawns. I wish I had taken a photo. For a lunch dish on a deal I was more than delighted & along with the taste this was just top class. For dessert I had a homemade baked lemon cheesecake served with homemade lemon curd. The texture of the cheesecake was smooth & good for a baked on which can sometimes be a bit grainy but I felt the lemon flavour was not coming through & needed the lemon curd to lift it. My hubbie had rhubarb crumble & ice cream which he said was beautiful. We also were offered coffee after lunch within the deal. I had one of the most flavoursome de-caf coffee's I've ever had. Very strong too. WE ordered a bottle of Cote du Rhone which came in at £27 & was delicious. Staff wee very helpful & friendly. This place is informal but the food is definitely top class. Can't wait to return.
