Along with its sister restaurant in Leith, A Room in the West End offers Scottish bistro dishes at affordable prices. Informal and friendly, the West End restaurant is underneath the vibrant Teuchters’ Bar. It is a cosy, candle-lit spot with wood panelling and white-washed stone walls. The two-seater alcove tables are perfect for a romantic night out.
Scottish ingredients and recipes are very much to the fore at A Room in the West End. This might mean classic options such as the haggis, neeps and tatties or tweaks on traditional dishes such as the Cullen skink served with paprika puff biscuits. Sirloin steaks from the Borders are always popular and Scottish seafood is well represented in dishes like the smoked North Sea halibut with a caper and mizuna salad. When in season, Scottish game features prominently and the Scottish cheeseboard always wins new fans. The Dunsyre Blue and brie-style Broon Coo come recommended.
A Room in the West End is on William Street below Teuchters’ Bar. There is restricted on-street parking and pay parking at The Sheraton or Castle Terrace. Haymarket and Waverley train stations are both within a fifteen minute walk and William Street is very near the tram line and numerous bus routes. The shopping boutiques of the West End and several theatres and concert halls are within easy walking distance.
