Located on Home Street in Tollcross, The Everest Nepalese and Indian Restaurant is a simply decorated, family-run restaurant. It welcomes couples and family groups and is well suited to group celebrations. Its proximity to the King’s Theatre and cinemas such as the Cameo, Odeon and Filmhouse make it ideal for a pre-show bite to eat.
The Everest Restaurant offers regional Nepalese dishes as well as a range of familiar Indian and Bangladeshi dishes. Diners who venture beyond the chicken balti and lamb bhunas are well rewarded. Nepalese herbs and spices are used in conjunction with local, Scottish produce to create dishes such as the lukla lamb – an eastern Nepalese recipe featuring long slices of lamb which are stuffed with mince and cooked in onion, ginger, garlic, tomato and the chef’s special spices. Other Nepalese specialities include the momo dumplings and bara, a sort of pan-fried lentil pancake served with a dip. The kitchen aims for a home-style taste and the Nepalese dishes tend to be more aromatic than fiery. There is a good choice of veggie and vegan options.
The Everest Nepalese and Indian Restaurant is on Home Street in Tollcross. The Cameo cinema and King’s Theatre are almost next door. There is limited on-street parking and pay parking at Princes Exchange on Riego Street. Haymarket train station and the tram line are a fifteen minute walk.
