There's no special deal to be had by booking Rafael's on the 5pm site, but this remains one of my favourite places to eat out in Edinburgh. It's a small, attractive basement, decorated with guitars and bric a brac. I don't like background music when eating out, but the guitar music that often plays here adds to the relaxing ambiance. The food is excellent, with Spanish touches, rather than an outright Spanish menu. The service is friendly - Rafael himself appears from the kitchen regularly, but most of the waiting is done by his (Brazilian?) assistant, who brings you the blackboard menu & describes each item. There are usually half a dozen starters and mains, with vegetarian options. Some dishes carry a supplement on the basic price, but the food is till excellent value. And save some room for dessert!
