Placed in the heart of the popular Bruntsfield district, Montpeliers has been a local favourite since 1992. Decorated with an eclectic collection of art, it is a laidback, neighbourhood venue. The sort of place where mums meet for a coffee post-school run and friends get together for lunch, dinner or after work drinks. Regular promotions such as the Wednesday gourmet burger night mean that Montpeliers offers a hassle-free alternative to cooking at home. A large variety of bottled and draught craft beers; a good wine list and a wide-ranging spirits selection keep thirst at bay.
Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and all points in between, Montpeliers likes to use lots of Scottish produce, from Isle of Lewis mussels to Orkney beef. All their menus are flexible with sandwiches, salads and sharing boards adding options for those not looking for a three course meal. The kitchen takes its inspiration from around the globe. Menus change regularly but typical main courses might be the Thai chicken curry; braised lamb shank tagine or the wild mushroom and artichoke fettuccine. On a more traditional note, the char grilled Scottish sirloin and rib-eye steaks come with fries and a Béarnaise or peppercorn sauce.
Montpeliers is on Bruntsfield Place. There is restricted on-street parking. Haymarket train station is a 25 minute walk or a ten minute taxi. Numerous bus services go past Montpeliers and to and from the city centre. Local attractions include the Dominion and Cameo cinemas, King’s Theatre and Meadows
