Eighteen Eighty Six Restaurant at Braid Hills Hotel is an airy, light space with a large glass wall that overlooks Braidburn Valley Park. Decked out in traditional tartans and hung with chandeliers, it also features an out door sun terrace with spectacular views of Edinburgh. A separate bar offers a good selection of whisky and cocktails.
The a la carte menu in Eighteen Eighty Six Restaurant at Braid Hills Hotel is packed with home-style favourites and traditional Scottish dishes. Among the starters, Cullen skink and Scottish game terrine are on offer alongside French onion soup and nachos. Scottish produce takes pride of place in main courses like the fillet of Tay salmon in a herb crust or the haunch of Highland venison infused with a vanilla and honey essence. A chicken curry, lasagne and fajitas provide more international flavours.
The grill section, which offers a char grilled burger and Thai marinated chicken breast as well as steaks, is always popular. It’s hard to see past desserts like the citrus bread and butter pudding with vanilla ice cream.
Eighteen Eighty Six Restaurant at Braid Hills Hotel is just off the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) and only two and a half miles from Princes Street. There is ample free parking in the grounds and streets. Regular bus services from Comiston Road go to and from the city centre. There are several golf courses nearby including Braid Hills.
