14A Nicolson St, EH8 9DH
South Side, Edinburgh
Cuisine: Indian, International
One of two Shri Bheema restaurants in Edinburgh, the Old Town branch is on Nicolson Street opposite the Festival Theatre. Part of an award-winning group of restaurants that stretches from Aberdeen to the south of England, Shri Bheema is a family-run restaurant specialising in north and south Indian cuisines. This branch is on the first floor with views of the Festival theatre.
Split into several sections such as street food starters and regional veg, the a la carte menu at Shri Bheema is extensive. Dishes from the north and south of India are the speciality around these parts. This means southern specialities such as stuffed dosa pancakes; steamed rice cakes with spicy sauces and Hyderabad-style chicken in a lababdar sauce made from ginger, mixed pepper, coriander leaves and cream. From the north of the country are options such as Punjabi daal makhani, Kashmiri rogan josh and a selection of biryani. As you might expect, there is a good selection of vegetarian dishes such as the Rajasthani dish of sautéed okra cooked in a spicy onion and tomato-based masala.
Shri Bheema is on Nicolson Street. There is limited on-street parking, especially on Chambers Street. Waverly is a brisk ten minute walk. Local attractions include the Festival Theatre and several key University of Edinburgh locations including the Old College Quad and Bristo Square.
