About 1886 Restaurant

Scottish restaurant in Braid Hills

Part of the Braid Hills Hotel, 1886 Restaurant is a spacious, conservatory-style dining room with handsome, dark wood tables and comfortable leather chairs. Flooded with natural daylight, it enjoys panoramic views across Braidburn Valley Park, Edinburgh City and the Firth of Forth beyond. The hotel also has a tremendous sun terrace which makes the most of the spectacular views. It is a popular spot for afternoon tea.

Seasonal Scottish produce

Local provenance, seasonal cooking and thoughtful presentation are at the heart of everything the 1866 Restaurant serves. This means that the menus change according to the ingredients available throughout the year.
Sample starters might be the Cullen skink tartlet; the honey-glazed ham hock terrine or the white crab kedgeree with quail’s egg and toast. Popular main courses include the goujons made with North Sea haddock, the Braid Hills bouillabaisse and the lightly smoked duck breast with polenta gnocchi. A grill section features chunky burgers, meatballs and steaks from Borders cattle. There is a separate vegetarian and vegan menu.
