Good food in a central location

A table had been reserved for us and we were issued with the early bird special menu. Three choices of starters and main courses were available on this menu. Food arrived in good time and was tasty. We had a tandoori roti in addition to the main course and rice. We ordered one coffee and this counted as a third course on the bill. Service was satisfactory though not particularly friendly.

The early bird menu is great value.

We thoroughly enjoyed our really tasty meal and thought it was excellent value for money, with great choices on the early bird menu. The wine was perfect too.

Indian and Thai restaurant on Royal Mile

Combining northern Indian and Thai dishes, Shamoli Restaurant sits right in the heart of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The smart, modern interior at Shamoli Restaurant mirrors the precise, contemporary presentation of the food.

Freshly cooked Scottish ingredients

Shamoli Restaurant offers separate Thai and Indian menus although, of course, diners are welcome to dip into both. As well as coding showing how spicy the food is, each dish also has a recommended side dish. For example, sweet potato is recommended as the perfect accompaniment to the stir fry duck while a mushroom and potato bhaji is advised as being ideal with lamb rogan josh.

The extensive menus mean that both veterans and newcomers to Thai and Indian food will be able to find their favourite dishes. As well as a la carte menus, Shamoli Restaurant offers lunchtime buffets, set banquets and an early bird menu.

Travel links by the Royal Mile

Shamoli Restaurant is on the Royal Mile and roughly midway between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyrood. Waverley train station is a five minute walk. Several bus routes to all parts of the city run along the nearby Bridges. On-street parking is limited. There is pay parking at Waverley.
