We ate on the special January sale offer of £12 for 2 courses plus a cafetiere of coffee, a pretty good deal, as not only is wine by the glass expensive, but the actual price of my burger (£14.50) was over the top. The burger itself was OK but the hand-cut chips were a major disappointment - like half-sized versions of Macdonalds fries, & rather limp to boot. To get all the other minuses out of the way first, this is the first time in ages that I've been able to resist pudding, with such items on the menu as coca cola jelly with Bassets licquorice allsorts ice cream, and pear tarte tatin with Dunsyre Blue ice cream; and a 10% service charge is added to your bill. But the food was mostly good, the service fine, the wine list interesting and the room has a nice ambience. We were glad they didn't actually ask for the table back after 2 hours.
