Best of the Hotel du Vins by miles!

Return visit to this Edinburgh eaterie and as ever was delishly filled up with great grub...one of the best burgers have eaten (not normally a burger person) The place was choc-a-bloc with poss end of voucher folk but staff efficient (though possibly could do with few more on) and friendly throughout....one of my favourites to visit when through here.

Cosy bistro in Edinburgh’s Old Town

The Bistro at Hotel du Vin is tucked away off a beguiling courtyard in Edinburgh’s atmospheric Old Town. It is a cosy, welcoming space with restored fireplaces, reclaimed floorboards and lots of wine merchant memorabilia.

The Bistro will appeal to anyone who likes to enjoy fine food and wine in a unique and stylish setting.

Hearty cooking with organic produce

The team under Head Chef Ross Edgar specialise in producing the sort of hearty, delicious cooking that people want to eat. It is not fine dining or faffy but it is fresh, seasonal, locally sourced and, wherever possible, created from organic produce. The kitchen’s ingredients are as local as they can possibly get.

The Bistro offers classic British food with a twist of French cuisine and the menu changes every day depending on the produce available. Typical starters include roastet tiger prawns, tartare de boeuf or salted beetroot & whipped goat’s cheese and mains like beef Bourguignon, butter poached cod and a range of succulent steak from different cuts.

The food is hearty, satisfying and the wine list is an ever evolving list of more than 200 wines. Offering a mix of old favourites and new, with less known producers to discover from both the old and new world.

Old Town location

The Bistro is part of Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh’s Old Town and around a ten minute walk from Waverley train station and frequent buses pass the restaurant. There are no car parking spaces at the hotel but there is a Q Car Park in Quartermile within walking distance.
