Had a great meal, but might be worth mentioning there are nuts in the risotto as people have allergies. Brilliant atmosphere and lovely décor.

Scottish restaurant by Holyrood
Opened in the summer of 2015, Acanthus at Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is a smart, contemporary brasserie-style restaurant which sits in the lee of Arthur’s Seat. Proud holders of an AA Rosette, the restaurant specialises in classic Scottish dishes. The friendly, professional staff have a glowing reputation for looking after their guests. There is a mix of booth and stand alone seating.
Fresh, local ingredients
The Acanthus kitchen brigade are enthusiastic champions of Scottish produce. This shines through in dishes like the steamed West coast mussels with a Thistly Cross cider cream sauce and the haunch of Perthshire venison served with a pumpkin and vanilla purée.
From Scottish salmon to haddock in an Innis and Gunn beer batter, there lots of great seafood choices on the menu. More carnivorous options can be found under the grill section. The fillet, rib-eye and sirloin of Scotch beef are always popular as is the house burger which comes with a garlic aioli, tomato relish and French fries.
Desserts range from traditional sticky toffee puddings to more adventurous coffee crème brulées served with an Amaretto foam.

Acanthus at Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is on Holyrood Road by the Scottish Parliament and five minute walk from the Palace of Holyrood. There is limited on-street parking and pay parking at the hotel. Waverley train station is a ten minute walk. Local attractions include the Royal Mile and Arthur’s Seat.
