    Excellent value and service

We had a wonderful evening at this restaurant celebrating a friends birthday. Requested a nice table (which we got) waiters were very attentive and the food was fantastic. We chose the pre-theatre menu. There wasn't a lot of choice but what we chose was just perfect.

Family-run, city centre Italian

Opened in 2004 as the first of Victor and Carina Contini’s group of three Edinburgh restaurants, Contini George Street blends contemporary Italian cooking with well sourced local ingredients and imported Italian specialities. Set in an imposing converted banking hall on George Street, Contini George Street is loftily grand yet also very welcoming. The soft, grey leather banquette seating encourages lingering over a Negroni while the open bar area competes for attention with the feature walls hung with Baroque Italian scenes.

Produce-led Italian cooking to share

Whether a dish uses imported Italian specialities, local artisan products or even vegetables from the Continis’ kitchen garden, it is all about the ingredients at Contini George Street. The menus change with the seasons but the emphasis is always on a light, modern style of cooking and dishes which are designed to be shared.

Popular choices include the salami Calabrese with roasted aubergine, mint, crème fraiche and pistachio crumb; cod poached in cold pressed olive oil with fennel, samphire and chilli; and a raw cauliflower, porcini and lemon oil salad with breadcrumbs and Venetian spiced walnuts. Old favourites such as the contadino – piccante Italian sausage pasta – remain on the menu but as lighter primi courses rather than belt-straining secondi. Breakfasts, morning coffees and after work aperitivos are also popular at Contini George Street.
