Amarone Edinburgh Review

  • Rating The Chef Ought to Have Known Better (Rating 2.4/5)
We had excellent starters - King Prawns in a delicious sauce with bread for dipping. However, we both chose the Veal Marsala for the main course and, although the Marsala sauce was lovely, the veal itself was horribly overcooked and therefore as tough as old leather. We ought to have complained but there had already been a mix up with our order which initially turned up with two different main courses instead of the King Prawn starters we had ordered, so we didn't want to start complaining again - although with hindsight - I wish we had. The dish came with vegetables which were fine, but the two sautéed potato halves had that "reheated" flavour suggesting they had been hanging around for quite a while. I make Veal Marsala myself sometimes and it comes out a lot better than Amarone's effort last Wednesday. Disappointing - first time we have tried Amarone and I don't think we will be going back.
