Lovely little Persian restaurant.
Starters and main courses were excellent. Probably the best rice in Edinburgh and each course was substantial. Service was prompt and efficient. Will definitely be back.

Toranj is a relaxed restaurant serving up Persian and Middle Eastern dishes. The decor is relaxed and rustic, with stone walls and an atmospheric shisha courtyard area. Run by a restaurant veteran of 15 years experience, Toranj is committed to using the finest and freshest ingredients in its colourful dishes.
The Toranj menu offers hot and cold starters, BBQ kebabs, BBQ skewers, traditional stews, slow-cooked dishes and desserts.
All BBQ dishes are served with a combination of different sides which can include rice, salad, fries or tandoori naan bread.
Stews are served with saffron rice and include the classic Persian dish of zereshk polo ba morgh, which is tender juicy chicken breast and leg cooked in barberry, pistachios and almonds. Or you could try an aromatic ghormeh sabzi Iranian herb stew, with either lamb or mushrooms cooked in parsley, spinach, dill, coriander and kidney beans.
Slow-cooked dishes are a house special, with one choice being fried aubergine, split yellow peas and whole dried lime in a special tomato sauce, with either diced lamb or mushrooms.
There is also a children’s menu available.
Toranj is on Leopold Place, just off London Road in the Calton Hill area. The Edinburgh Playhouse is less than a five-minute walk away, making this a great spot for a meal before a show. You can find pay parking at Q-Park OMNI on Greenside Row.
