We arrived to find that the manager on duty didn't know about the deal we'd booked. There was much whispering over a screen which was (a) embarrassing and (b) delayed our ordering significantly. It got to the point where I emailed customer services @5pm.co.uk who called the hotel and made sure they were aware of the offers that they had signed up to. The staff then fell over themselves to be nice to us, probably checking that we were ok to the point it was a bit OTT!
There was a piano player and harpist there which was really nice, and the afternoon tea itself was lovely, there was a lot of food. The savoury bits were delicious, and although the scones came ten minutes or so after everything else, they were worth waiting for as they were warm and really tasty. There were loads of cakes and sweet treats which looked pretty and tasted good.
Apart from the issue with our arrival, the only other piece of feedback I'd give is that the Child's Afternoon tea (which we bought additionally for £14), is not really a child's afternoon tea. Apart from the sandwiches and a couple of the sweets treats, the cakes were the same and far too rich for a child. Our little girl is a chocoholic, but even for her, a ganache filled mini cone with hazlenuts, a really dark chocolate and peanut butter brownie and an apple and spiced cupcake were just too grown up. Either position it as a half portion of the adult afternoon tea suitable for older kids or make the cakes slightly more child friendly (we essentially paid £14 for her to eat 2 scones, some ham sandwiches, a giant chocolate button and a jelly.) If we'd been given the option just to buy a small sandwich and a scone for her we'd have done so.
I would go back as the food was lovely.
