    Lovely food and ambience

Had booked a special steak meal for two at a very good price, we had been before about 2 years ago and were disappointed. When we arrived they couldn’t find our booking, we waited and were on the verge of going somewhere else when the girl came and got us with a booth table that we had asked for. We were served very promptly, nothing was too much trouble, when our steak arrived it was perfectly cooked and the wine we got with it was a large glass and again lovely. We ended up spending the evening with a bottle of wine, coffee and dessert. We’ll definitely be back, might even do Christmas!

Laid-back West End Scottish restaurant

Located on Rutland Place in Edinburgh’s West End, Ghillie Dhu is set over three floors and although reminiscent of a traditional Scottish pub, it can deliver so much more. Ghillie Dhu boasts an auditorium for events like their ceilidh nights, a spacious bar with occasional live music and sports on big television screens as well as a welcoming restaurant serving Scottish fare in hearty portions. An inviting venue that is child-friendly until 8pm, Ghillie Dhu is also accessible to wheelchair users and close to Princes Street.

Freshly made food with the finest ingredients.

The restaurant’s menu offers something for everyone so if the locally caught haggis (yes) with neeps, tatties and a whisky cream sauce fails to tempt your taste buds, then you can play it safe with the chicken liver pate or a bowl of freshly made soup.

Main courses often available at Ghillie Dhu include a selection of pies such as steak and Ghillie ale, chicken and ham or mushroom and leek; baked fillet of Scottish salmon; battered fish and chips with mushy peas and also Marshalls’ macaroni and ham bake. Traditional Scottish dishes like the Cullen skink and black pudding also make an appearance.

Close to Princes Street & transport links

Ghillie Dhu is on Rutland Place in the West End of Edinburgh, and just a stone’s throw from the shoppers’ haven of Princes Street. Bus stops and taxi ranks are close by with Haymarket train station a brisk ten minute walk from Ghillie Dhu and Waverley train station around twenty minutes away on foot. Edinburgh city centre is within walking distance of the restaurant some surrounding streets offer metered car parking.
