Those of you who recall the restaurant at the Bruntsfield in either of its previous recent incarnations (Cardoon and the Potting Shed) will be pleasently surprised with Bisque. The restaurant is now "up the hill" a bit, behind the bar - both of which have been comprehensively refurnished and have a modern, but fairly solid feel.
So the ambience is much improved with the decor updated and whole place feeling less cavernous. Pleased to report that the food was still up to its good standard. Several of our party had the squid starter and raved about it. Mains were good quality with portion sizes about right (everyone fancied dessert, but no-one felt hungry after it!) The creme brulee was the only low point - looked good but lacked flavour and had quite a runny texture.
The service was attentive without being overbearing - but the biggest plus point is the value for money. This is now a bona fide trendy eaterie in Bruntsfield where you can have 3 courses, coffee and a drink for under £25 (particularly if you use the 5pm deal). That should leave you with enough cash to enjoy other establishments in the area or get your taxi to George Street and blow the savings!
