Ginger Restaurant is a Indian and Nepalese restaurant which is slightly tucked away on South College Street. Compact and simply decorated with a striking mural over the bar, it is a cosy spot for a pre-theatre dinner, romantic night out or big celebration with friends and family.
With a kitchen team that has seen action in some very upmarket hotels in Dubai and India, Ginger Restaurant is keen to use authentic Nepalese and Indian spices and herbs in their dishes. Many of the options – such as the chicken pakora, lamb madras and the range of tandoori dishes – will be familiar to fans of Indian food.
Some of the Nepalese dishes might seem more exotic. For example, the bheda kho khutta features a leg of lamb cooked with traditional Nepalese herbs while the mo mo are Nepalese steamed dumplings. Vegetarians have plenty of choices at Ginger Restaurant and the seafood section offers a dish of pangasius fish in a coconut milk sauce alongside a selection of prawn and king prawn dishes.
Ginger Restaurant is on South College Street. It is close to Edinburgh University’s Old Town base and is just a two minute walk from Edinburgh Festival Theatre and the National Museum of Scotland. The nearest train station is Waverley which, like the tram line, is a brisk ten minute stroll. There is restricted pay parking on Chamber Street.
